I shoulda been a cowboy

Life is something of a crapshoot. How much control do we really have over what happens to us? Where you're born, and to whom, have a huge influence on the rest of your life. That's not to say that these things determine the course of your life, but they can (and often do) play a significant role.

Beyond that, you can live your life the "right" way and circumstances can still fuck you over. You can study hard, go to college, and then the economy can tank right when you need a job. You can eat organic vegetables and hormone-free beef and you might still sprout tumors. You can nurture a fantastic relationship and it can still go to pieces.

I know you ultimately have the last say in how you react to these things. I know I'm being whiny, and have been for the past few days. It's just frustrating when there appears to be very little "justice," as we think of it, in the world at all.

C'est la vie, ya know?

Life is unfair, it's hard, and it hurts.

That's why we have to absorb every good thing that comes our way.

Life sucks, and then your fish gets eaten, right? But things are going to be okay for you.

Besides, do you even like fish?

Love ya, girl. :)

(PS: I almost signed this comment with your name. Sign out next time, sillypants!)

I don't think you're whiny. You're right about justice (and lack thereof). It is really disturbing how much of our lives is determined purely by contingency of location, gender, race, socioeconomics, etc etc. The most we can do is to make the best out of what we have, and try to use our random advantages to work around random other things that challenge us, and to help others that don't have the same advantages. I don't mean to sound Pollyanna-ish. Our control over what happens to us may be restricted in some ways, but I do think we have enough wiggle room to influence our paths in others, and even when we fail (which we all will at some point, in some way), just trying is commendable in itself...

Hang in there, take care and treat yourself kindly.

PS I was making my bed today and found a spider crawling on my pillow! Thought of you immediately, just had to share. ;)
