Hey, someone wrote "gullible" on the ceiling!

Meet Oscar Meyer's new product, the Deli Fresh Combination pack:
It's featured in the spring issue of Food and Family, Kraft Food's self-aggrandizing cooking and lifestyle magazine. The "delicious snack combos feature thinly sliced deli-style meats and cheeses in a variety of flavors, such as Turkey & Ham with Swiss & Cheddar."

Seriously? Come on, you guys. This is a fancy-schmancy, repackaged Lunchable:
The nutrition information is almost identical for these two products. I mean, it's a pretty brilliant strategy. I just have to laugh that the gummy, salty ham slices of my childhood have been transformed into upscale snacking for adults.

Confession....I have that exact product in my fridge at this moment. To my credit, I realize it's the same stuff that came in the kiddy packaging, but it makes me feel less self-conscious about taking cheap fast food to campus when I only have 15 minutes for lunch. Kind of like the publisher in the UK that made special grown-up editions of the Harry Potter books with different cover art.

(Sorry for the multiple goofed posts. No, I'm not a perfectionist...)

No worries, Cammy. Like I said, it's pretty smart of Oscer Meyer. Lots of protein in there, too!

I have to correct myself (again), I have the chicken and turkey, not the ham (I find the pork industry to be appalling for a variety of reasons). Not that it matters in the least bit, I am still as gullible and over-sodiumized as before. ;)

I don't know what's funnier - the fact that they repackaged Lunchables or that you took the time to "Reveal" their tactics! Thanks for the laugh!

The only thing the new product seems to be missing is the little pack of Starbursts and the Capri Sun. Those were the best part!

Mine had an Andes chocolate in it, although it wasn't advertised on the package, that was a nice surprise!

But Lisa, it's "deli fresh." Surely that means that it is fresh from the deli? Brimming with deliciousness? I mean, "all natural" means that something is made from organic and natural products without anything artificial in it, right? Isn't "deli fresh" the same thing? And look at those colors. They're browns, like the grains of wheat the crackers were made from just this morning.

I think if I throw in some of those newly repackaged Lays, treat myself to a Special K protein bar for dessert, and top it all off with some flavored fiber water, I would have a really natural and healthy meal. Just like nature intended.

I always wanted Lunchables, but I'm a vegetarian, and they never seemed to make vegetarian ones.

That's an excellent point, Tiger - Lunchables are definitely a status symbol, and they aren't available to everyone. Lunchables were a pretty rare treat - those mofos are expensive!

Tiger: The nacho ones are vegetarian, and you could make the pizza ones veggie if you left off the pepperoni. But you're right, as far as the cracker-based kind, it seems like having one with hummus or some other meat alternative would be a good way to cater to a niche market.
