Mr. Feeney

For all of you Boy Meets World fans, one of my best friends here at TFA Institute has the last name of Feeney. I am mad jealous.

Whew. I think I'm ready for tomorrow - well, almost. I have to make some mama and baby animal cards - I'm using them to teach capital and lowercase letters. Oh, and I should probably review my lesson and make sure I know what I'm actually saying.

I know there are at least a couple of teachers who meander through this blog now and again. I can't say much due to TFA's policies on bloggery/facebookery, but have you ever been ... ah ... bitten by a student? Punched/kicked/slapped in the face? Because I have. On Friday. By the same girl.

I hope tomorrow is a fresh start for my students and my teaching group. I hope we can establish more order. It's not fair to the kids at all - if we can't give them the support they need to behave, they can't learn. And if any kids need that extra boost at the beginning, it's these adorable, frustrating, smart-as-hell four-year-olds.

And I hope I don't get peed on.

FE-HE-HE-HEENAY. I can't say I've ever been bitten by a little kid, but I have definitely been slapped in the rear end by one.

Oh man was I addicted to that show. I was totally convinced I would marry Shawn one day.

How old are these abusive munchkins? And be careful about those bites, kids carry diseases, you know.

Slapped you on the face???

I have been kicked, bitten, slapped, punched, kicked, hair pulled, you name it, along with being called ever possible name you can imagine. I have worked in a day treatment program, alternative school and inpatient hospital- Ages 2-17, and the one that did the most damage by far was a 5 year old. I work with adults too, but luckily I've never been assaulted by them. Hope things get more manageable as you are all get more used to eachother.

I just realized I put kicked in there twice. Oops.

I LOVE Boy Meets World!

My sister is becoming a teacher and while she was preparing this summer a student pulled a knife on another student and my sis had to stop it. Not quite teh same though as teh anger being at the teacher.

I wish you the best of luck with your lessons. take Care.

Oh man, I LOVE Mr. Feeney, and like Cammy I had a mad crush on Shawn.

This was a pointless comment I guess but I hope you had a good day :)

Eww, I hope you don't get peed on, too. I though it was summer break; you must be in a year-round school district. Sounds like you are holding your own. I give you props for just showing up each day!

I've always worked with upper class kids of highly educated wealthy parents. They have a nasty attitude sometimes, a sense of entitlement, but never any physical violence.

In our middle school there is a program for emotionally disturbed children, and I have subbed there. I have seen physical violence, but never directed to me.

What type of discipline are you allowed to use in this program?

I took the student in question down to the office, where we called her mother. The school's principal was a big help.
